Put the “I” Back Into Your Family…
Here at Hickory Shores Family Therapy the focus is simple — your families wellbeing is my goal.
As a solo practitioner, I work closely with you and your family to find the solutions that not only improve your mental health, but also the relationships that support your mental health.
“Jonathon is amazing! I originally reached out because I thought I was at the end of my marriage. Jonathon helped me and my wife better understand how our relationship was trying to strive in the wake of our fights and how we both were getting in the way of growing within our relationship. I really appreciated how he worked with use both together and individually to help up articulate what we actually wanted and needed in our marriage.”
Life comes with it challenges and sometimes within the skids of your well-being a decision can be made to try to get out of those challenges on your own in order to protect the ones you love.
Over time those challenges continue to add up and before you know it your looking at the people you originally wanted to protect and start resenting the fact that have done “nothing” to help you with the problems you took on your own.
“When I first started working with Jonathon I came in because I recently had a panic attack. After about 6 sessions he asked me if I was willing to invite my son and wife into our next session. I was really skeptical, but he pointed out some talking patterns he was hearing that could be beneficial for the family to hear. Needless to say, he guided me through that next session because I couldn’t stop crying after telling my family how hard things have been for the past year. I will never forget my son coming up to me and giving me a hug and saying how proud he was of me. That would have never had happen if it wasn’t for Jonathon. ”
What’s the point of having a peace of mind without being able to share it with someone important to you?
With over 10 years of experience working with families around a variety of mental health concerns, I like to think of myself as a family resource consultant who works with all the relationships that make up a family system — the extended family relationships, marital relationship, parenting or coparenting relationships and sibling relationships.
“Jonathon has a fascinating ability to help people understand how their problems aren’t something that is personal, but rather negative loops that are generally maintained by specific relationship dynamics that can be simply altered to lead to better outcomes.”
I work with a range of issues that include everything from family/ marital conflicts, support through family legal issues, parenting and co-parenting, family trauma, bereavement or just a simple marital tune up to help get you and your family realigned with new goals.

Not exactly. In today’s day and age it can be a huge hassle to get all family members in one place at one time. It is not uncommon that I often start therapy with just one client and overtime invite and work in specific members of the family (based on permissions) to address whatever issues are being experienced in the family system. This could include spending a couple sessions doing couples work, then a couple sessions solo with, and then maybe a couple sessions with kids (if any). It’s a decision I let the family decide when it comes to the different formats.
-
No. I can see different family members throughout the treatment process with a few considerations and consents that need to be obtained before starting. I explain this further during the consultation process.

Family therapy offers a wide range of benefits for families seeking to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their relationships. By engaging in therapy together or focusing on family dynamics, family members gain valuable insights into each other's thoughts, feelings, and needs, fostering a deeper understanding and empathy among all participants.
One of the key advantages of family therapy is the opportunity to address issues within the context of the family system, exploring how each individual's behavior and experiences impact the family as a whole. This holistic approach allows for comprehensive, long-lasting solutions that can benefit everyone involved.
Additionally, family therapy provides a safe, supportive environment for discussing sensitive topics and navigating difficult conversations. With the guidance of a skilled therapist, families can learn healthy communication strategies, develop effective problem-solving skills, and ultimately build stronger, more resilient connections.

Both family therapy and individual therapy offer unique benefits, and choosing the most suitable approach depends on the specific needs and goals of the client or family.
Family therapy focuses on the family system as a whole, exploring the complex interactions, patterns, and dynamics that exist within the family unit. By addressing issues within this broader context, family therapy allows for comprehensive solutions that consider the needs of each family member and promote lasting, positive change. This collaborative approach fosters understanding, empathy, and improved communication among all participants, strengthening the family's overall resilience.
Individual therapy, on the other hand, concentrates on the personal growth and well-being of a single person. It provides an opportunity for in-depth exploration of an individual's thoughts, emotions, and experiences, helping them gain self-awareness and develop effective coping strategies. This tailored approach empowers the client to overcome personal challenges, enhance their emotional well-being, and foster a greater sense of self-fulfillment.
In essence, both family therapy and individual therapy are valuable tools for promoting mental health and well-being. The choice between the two depends on the specific goals and needs of the client or family, and both have the potential to create meaningful, positive change in people's lives.
